Amid the most famous neighborhood in Washington, D.C., Global Latitudes' managing partner, Michelle Davis, gathered a significant swath of the intelligent and creative in Georgetown to honor Vanda Scartezini of Sao Paulo, Brazil.


Mark Johnson, Anthony DeWitt, Mariam Heydari, Simon Gissurarson, Jacqueline Hassanzadeh, Greg Myren, Debbie Myren, Christi Myren, Jeff Myren, Patricia Green, Eric Galasso and Steve Crocker raised glasses as Davis warmly toasted Scartezini on the newly formed partnership between Global Latitudes, a Mclean Va based consulting firm, and Polo Consultores in Sao Paulo, Brazil.


Scartezini served as National Secretary of Industrial Technology and as National Secretary of Information Technology in the Brazil. She is also former President of Brazil's Patent Office. From 2000 until March 2004 she was the Brazilian representative on the ICANN Governmental Advisory Committee. She also served as GAC Vice Chair until March 2004.


She is the founding partner in Polo Consultores, a Brazilian information technology(IT) consulting company – established in 1985 – and IT-Trend Consulting a company dedicated to the development of e-commerce and other internet based business – established in 2008. She also acts as President of ALTIS, a Software & Service outsourcing company, and as chair of the board of FITEC, an ICT R&D foundation. She is also an associate partner of Getulio Vargas Foundation Projects and member of the board of ABES, the Brazilian Software Industry Association, of INSTITUTO ELDORADO an IC Research Institution and Advisory Board member of Perform Management and Turnaround Consulting, a Brazilian Consulting Company.


She has acted as Brazilian Government representative in many international missions around the world as well as an expert and consultant for international institutions. She was honored with many of the major prizes in the Brazilian IT Industry. She is also honorable member of Abranet, the IST Brazilian Association, and of the Brazilian Chamber of Electronic Commerce. Among other ICT associations, she is also a member of WTN – World Technology Network.

Global Latitudes, Inc. a Mclean, Va based consulting firm is provider of business advisory services. Largely comprised of a consortium of former Big 4 talent who posses a diverse set of experiences. The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson

The Warmth of Other Suns” is Wilkerson’s first book. (Its title is borrowed from the celebrated black writer Richard Wright, who fled Jim Crow Mississippi in the 1920s to feel the warmth of those other suns.) Based on more than a thousand interviews, written in broad imaginative strokes, this book, at 622 pages, is something of an anomaly in today’s shrinking world of nonfiction publishing: a narrative epic rigorous enough to impress all but the crankiest of scholars, yet so immensely readable as to land the author a future place on Oprah’s couch.

Wilkerson follows the journey of three Southern blacks, each representing a different decade of the Great Migration as well as a different destination. It’s a shrewd storytelling device, because it allows her to highlight two issues often overlooked: first, that the exodus was a continuous phenomenon spanning six decades of American life; second, that it consisted of not one, but rather three geographical streams, the patterns determined by the train routes available to those bold enough to leave.

Isabel Wilkerson won the 1994 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing as Chicago bureau chief of The New York Times. The first black woman to win a Pulitzer Prize in journalism and the first African American to win for individual reporting, she has also won the George Polk Award and a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship.


She has lectured on narrative at the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University and has served as Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton University and as the James M. Cox Jr. Professor of Journalism at Emory University. She is currently Professor of Journalism and Director of Narrative Nonfiction at Boston University. During the Great Migration, her parents journeyed from Georgia and southern Virginia to Washington, D.C., where she was born and reared. This is her first book.
